Gray Toad's discovery

On a cool early morning
One Tuesday in Spring,
Gray Toad discovered an interesting thing.

En route to his bath,
He stepped through the mud
Only to note
that the water was blood.

He exclaimed something profound,
though rhyme it did not:

Still he did bathe,
Not thinking too clearly.
For his decision
he paid pretty dearly.

The blood seeped into his lungs,
and so it's been said,
Gray Toad succumbed
and winded up dead.

His body, bloated and gross
Floated up to the shore,
Beside all the other ones,
who bathed there before.
